Tips for Hummingbird Nectar Recipe:
You need to concentrate on the following tips to make perfect nectar for hummingbirds and avoid any mistakes done by most people.
1. Use Purified Water:
Sometimes normal water contains harmful chemicals and has a strong taste, so you need light purified water to make good nectar. You can also boil the water for that purpose, but make sure you don’t reduce water volume during boiling. It may increase the sugar concentration in the water. If you are a little confused, buy this cheap purified water.
2. Use Refined sugar:
Some people use unrefined sugar in place of regular white sugar and think that it’s ok. But unrefined sugar is very heavy compared to regular white sugar, which may cause harmful effects on birds. So always use refined white sugar to make nectar just like natural nectar obtained from flowers. We are recommending one that works best, but you can use any other white sugar.
You can slightly adjust the ratio of sugar and water but always try to maintain the ratio of 1:4 ratio of sugar and water. Less sugary water is not attractive for birds because they are used to getting sweeter nectar from flowers. Also, the high sugar concentrated water is not easy for birds to digest. So always try maintaining a concentration 1:4 ratio of sugar and water.
3. Cool Nectar before use:
Always try to cool down the nectar before use because hot nectar is very harmful to birds. Warm nectar also damages your feeder and attracts bees and other insects. Using hot water, you will observe that the birds can’t back to your feeder after the first visit.

If you think you don’t have enough time to boil the water and then cool it before feeding to the birds, you can also use lukewarm water to mix the sugar. Don’t serve hot nectar to birds as hot water can cause some serious health issues.
Can I use the microwave to make the hummingbird nectar?
Yes, you can use the microwave to make hummingbird nectar. You can use the microwave to boil your water to save time. After that, you can mix the sugar in that water with a concentration of 1:4 to make perfect hummingbird nectar.
The use of microwaves doesn’t add any irregularity in nectar. The use of microwaves is not harmful to birds. You can use a microwave for your comfort.
Is the sugar water killing the hummingbirds?
Surprisingly some people are too conscious about the birds that they think sugar water is also harmful to birds. Actually, the nectar we made with refined sugar is very light as compared to other unrefined sugar.
